General Information

Since March 2013, Sharon Therrian, the Founder of “Tote Bags of Love” has championed the making of 900 plus Weather-Proof Tote Bags for Homeless Individuals, 3 – 5 year-olds in the Head-start program, and Foster Care Children.  This was accomplished by contacting Purina and requesting them to donate plastic weave feed and grain bags, the Washington Feed & Grain Elevator for Twine, posting flyers throughout the Romeo Area community requesting individuals to donate plastic weave feed and grain bags, and also to help in the cutting and the sewing of the plastic weave bags to create weather proof Tote Bags.

Sharon has organized cutting and sewing parties throughout this time. There has been a community news announcement written in the Romeo Observer and  Sharon has been interviewed by two local community television stations regarding her efforts. There is now a monthly production event listed within the Romeo, Washington, and Bruce Township Parks and Recreation Guide and the Sterling Heights Senior Guide.  Sharon also holds once a month production events at Sterling Heights Lion Club and the Rochester Hills Moose Lodge.  Sharon and volunteers have collected and cut over 1,200 plastic weave feed and grain bags, sewn and distributed over 900 bags.   Sharon has expanded her efforts and makes several different types of Tote Bags so she could help a variety of other individuals.

Sharon founded Tote Bags of Love on December 14, 2013.  On August 22, 2014, the Federal Government made Tote Bags of Love a 501(c)3 Nonprofit Charity.
